Titles

Not just a brag, not just a stepping stone to a higher title, not just an adjunct to competitive scores, a title is a tribute to the dog that bears it, a way to honor the dog, an ultimate memorial. It will remain in record and in memory for as long as anything in this world can remain. Few humans will do as well or better in that regard.

And though the dog itself doesn’t know or care that its achievements have been noted, a title says many things in the world of humans, where such things count.

A title says your dog was intelligent and adaptable, and good natured. It says that your dog loves you enough to do the things that please you, however crazy they may have sometimes seemed.

And a title says that you loved your dog, that you loved to spend time with it because it was a good dog, that you believed in it enough to give it yet another chance when it failed, and that, in the end, your faith was justified.

A title proves that your dog inspired you to that special relationship enjoyed by so few; that in a world of disposable creatures, this dog with a title was greatly loved, and loved greatly in return.

And when that dear short life is over, the title remains as a memorial of the finest kind, the best you can give to a deserving friend, volumes of pride in one small set of initials after the name.

A title earned is nothing less than love and respect, given and received, and permanently recorded.

Fritz came to me from http://www.emlabradors.com with the intention of being my pet dog.  What a cute little lab he was.  When he was about 4 months old, I decided to join an obedience class and off we went.  We both found out that we really love doing obedience.  We’ve worked hard training and learning all the various skills of obedience.   Wow, I never knew it could be so much fun but so much work to get to the level of obedience that we strived for.

On October 17, 2003 we decided to try our obedience skills in the Novice A ring at Mid Jersey Labrador Retriever Club and amazingly we took first place!

Needless to say, we were hooked on obedience!

We have progressed over the next 6 years showing through Novice, Open, and Utility.  My goal with Fritz became acquiring the UDX title.  This meant we had to show in both Open and Utility at shows and receive a qualifying score in both classes for a total of 10 times.  We did work hard for this title and on May 18, 2008 my Fritz had his 6th birthday and today he received his UDX title!  What a great guy.

My Fritz is now my pet dog and we take long walks together.  He is retired from Obedience even though he still likes to train.  I have two other labs that I am training and who you will meet on my girls’ page.  Enjoy!

Some of the people I would like to thank for my start in obedience are:

My first trainers and now my very good friends – I would not be where I am at today if not for their help and support in my training.  Thank you!

Betsy Scapicchio, owner at http://www.topdogobedience.com/ who has given me lessons and classes and has been influential to the kind of trainer I am today.
